Sady, I don’t want to get into a huge debate about Sucker Punch (which I enjoyed), but this post is severely undermining your own stance. Fanboys objectify just about every female character ever. Is Wonder Woman less empowering because some fanboy wants to fuck her? Power Girl? Huntress? I’ve long since stopped basing my feelings about a female character on what guys think about her.
And besides, weren’t you the one just a few months ago reminiscing about the Spice Girls, and how we were so spoiled by feminist music that we criticized them and their tight, revealing clothes? We are currently experiencing a dearth of even remotely feminist pop culture. Sucker Punch is filling a gap, no matter how ill-fitting you find it.
bolded my favorite part. Are you really going to judge the character for THEM or for how some fans feel about them? That’s basically taking every part of the character’s personality and what makes them strong and amazing and throwing it all away because of someone else’s opinion of them/how that other person views them.
(I am saying this in general as I have yet to see Sucker Punch. Which I DO want to see mostly for the eye candy, admittedly)
